Alex Ewerth hat sich seit vielen Jahren mit Sound-Art auseinandergesetzt und ihre eigene minimalistische Ästhetik entwickelt. Sie stellt sich die Frage, wie sich Musik und Klang visualisieren lassen kann. Dabei geht es der Künstlerin nicht um die eindimensionale Übersetzung, sondern um die Erfahrung von Musik.

The work „Pianist“ is the result of a four years collaborative project with two pianists. I searched on ways to visualize the exact, scientific representation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s first fugue from his work „The Well-Tempered Clavier“. To do this, I had an old piano brought to my studio and asked a pianist to play Bach’s fugue from the cycle on it.
Before I prepared the piano: I coated the piano strings with acrylic paint. The played piano keys give the impulse to the piano hammers and these hit the piano strings. The piano strings vibrate and the paint is being thrown on the paper when the pianist played the keys – the picture is created by sound.
In the process of creation, the aspect of time is of particular interest: while the sound is still echoing in the room, the visible image of the piece is already completed.
Why this Johann Sebastian Bach and why „The Well Tempered Clavier“? The clear order, symmetry and tense harmony of his, as well as its depth behind the order, have inspired me to work intensively with this specific piece of Bach.
Out of my collaborative works with especially the pianist Detlef Sassmannshausen the room-installation „Reflections“ (see my website – (Installation) as well as other musical works arose.

Das Nebeneinander von Struktur, Ordnung und dem Aufgeben ebendieser ist Thema der Installation.
Ein Video mit Klavier spielenden Händen eines Pianisten (Detlef Sassmannshausen) in Großformat projeziert auf eine Wandcollage. Die Projektion wird durch eine von der Decke hängende A4 Klarsichtfolie ausgestrahlt, auf welcher die ersten 3 Präludien von J. S. Bach abgedruckt sind. Dies sind auch die Stücke, die der Besucher parallel hört.

In dieser Arbeit geht es um die Auseinandersetzung mit verschiedenen Ebenen von Wirklichkeit.
Die neun im Kreis einer Hecke angeordneten Bilder zeigen poetische aber auch alltägliche Situationen.
 Auf manchen Bildern sind kurze Texte zu lesen. Es sind Dinge, die wir zueinander sagen, Zitate aus Lieblingsbüchern oder e-mails, Worte aus bekannten Songs, die wir für uns sprechen lassen.
 Der Blick in die Mitte, durch das Gewirr der Hecke führt zur Frage nach dem Geheimnis unserer Existenz.
